Do you have a GIANT size appetite (pardon the pun) on Superbowl Sunday like most Americans? Most of the parties I’ve been to are filled with greasy, fatty, high calorie meals and snacks that would and should make any dieter cringe. It may be impossible to completely avoid these diet busters, but bringing your own figure friendly dish may help.
The Genetix recipe for turkey or vegetarian chili will be a hit with most people. Or, why not have a Philly cheesesteak? Yes, it’s tweaked a little. No, this is not a place for Eagles jokes. Admittedly, as a lifelong Philly fan, I’m still sulking. Just replace the steak with meaty portobellos, saute them in a tablespoon of olive oil with bell peppers and sweet onions. Use melted fat free provolone instead of the full fat cheese whiz. Stuff all of this yummy goodness into a whole wheat pita pocket and you’ve got yourself a meal!
Another idea is veggies and tzatziki sauce. It’s easier to make than it is to pronounce. Use 8 ounces of plain Greek yogurt, stir in 1 cup of grated cucumbers, the juice from 1 lemon, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, then salt and pepper to taste. Cut assorted fresh veggies then dip.
It’s not very difficult to be a healthy lifestyle PATRIOT (again, excuse the pun) it just takes a little planning and extra effort. Happy and safe partying to all of our Genetix fans!
